My name is Hali Morrison, I am a line cook at the restaurant Evoo, located in Cambridge, MA. I started this blog to keep customers (and anyone interested) up to date on what is going on in the restaurant, with our menu, staff, and overall activity. Hopefully this will be an informative, interesting way for us to keep in touch with the world outside of the restaurant, and for people to know exactly what goes on in our kitchen at all times. As our menu changes almost daily, you can find out what’s happening (and why) by following this blog.
Working at EVOO is my first job in a kitchen, and it has not met any of my expectations. I expected to be yelled at every time I did something wrong, I expected everyone to be mean and grumpy all the time, and I definitely expected to be yelled at for not being able to move at an insanely fast pace despite my lack of experience.
The cooks I met at EVOO are some of the friendliest, most helpful people I have ever met. When I was first starting out everyone was extremely patient with me, and I seemed to be more upset about my mistakes than anyone else. In the entire time that I’ve worked there, I’ve never seen anyone yell at anyone else. I think that my previous idea of working in a kitchen was a bit too based on television.
Peter, the head chef, loves his job more than anyone I know. When I came in a few weeks ago and asked him “how’s it going?” his response was “still the luckiest guy in the world!”.
I have never worked anywhere with such a good overall mood, where the people actually care about what they’re doing, and are so incredibly passionate about it.
This is what I want to communicate to the outside world about EVOO, and about what we do and why we do it.
